An Evening on Buddhist Ethics: The Causal Ground of Flourishing with Ven. Gendun

Join us for an evening of conversation on a distinctive vision of ethics and human flourishing.

Buddhist ethics are empty of judgment, normativity, and guilt. They simply observe that in a causal world, every action has consequences. What we do today shapes the person we become tomorrow, and whether the world meets that person as hostile or hospitable. Unskillful actions breed friction and stress; skillful ones lead to contentment and flourishing. This holds whether an action is legal or not, socially accepted or not, done in private or in public.

In-person and online.

Schedule:

Friday 27 November at 18:00 – 19:30. Buddhist Center Sampo in Helsinki and online on Zoom.

Ven. Gendun will also a guide a weekend retreat on Karma on Saturday and Sunday. Read more.

All times are Helsinki / EET (UTC+2).

Where: In person at the Buddhist Center Sampo, Vetehisenkuja 3, 00530 Helsinki (close to Helsinki University metro station) or online through Zoom.

Your teacher: Venerable Losang Gendun

Venerable Losang Gendun has spent nearly four decades in Buddhist practice, and has been living as a fully ordained gelong in the Tibetan tradition for the past twenty years. His training spans ten years of monastic study across France, India, Nepal, and Myanmar, and more than four years in solitary retreat in the Tibetan Mahayana and the Burmese Theravāda traditions.

For the past eighteen years he has taught Buddhist philosophy, psychology, and meditation worldwide within FPMT, serving the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. In 2023, as a gesture of gratitude to his teachers, he founded The Buddha Project (TBP), to offer long-term guidance for serious meditators. TBP webpages serve as the online learning platform for the FPMT In-Depth Meditation Training and the FPMT Ngöndro Lamrim Training.

We are happy to receive Venerable Gendun to Helsinki twice a year. His teachings stem from a deep understanding of the Dharma and vast personal experience that ranges the full gamut of practices aimed at achieving enlightenment for the sake of sentient beings. He teaches with an engaging combination of relatable, informative stories, and profound insight flawlessly serving the students’ progress on the path.
